Public, A Journal of Imagining America was a project to build a custom online journal, where issues could be published, and the archives could be explored through visualizations.
Create a journal system off of the WordPress framework. Have a completely custom design with fancy HTML5 visualizations to visualize the archive.
Extend the built-in WordPress features to make a powerful back end publishing system. D3.js was chosen as the library to power the visualizations, which connects the back end tagging and categorization system. This theme also featured flexible customization tools that allowed the clients to configure many of the visuals, such as images and colors.
This theme was developed over the course of several months alongside several other projects and was completed in October 2013.
